Slept in a little today and decided to do a beach day. We took public transit to Takapuna, a neighbourhood about a 20 min bus ride away from the city center with really nice beach front. There are some world famous beaches about two hours away from the city center but unfortunately the public transit doesn’t go to any of them.
Takapuna was still a really nice beach. There were a lot of locals there and we got a great view of where we had just hiked up Rangitoto the day before. The surrounding community is really nice. Clean with lots of cute little shops and cafes. We ate dinner at one of the places over looking the beach and then went swimming again.
We bus backed and since it was our last night a the University, we had to buckle down and plan out the rest of our trip.
After hours of weighing options we decided to go with the intercity’s travel pass. The regional bus line offered a North Island bus itinerary with a hop on hop off style approach. For $250.00 we had the option of getting off in 8 different places and as long as we didn’t back track we had up to a year to use it.
After we bought it we had a bit of a struggle finding out how to log on online and book our itinerary which could be changed up to two hours before departure. Because of this delay we weren’t able to get on the morning bus out to Rotorua that stopped in at Waitomo caves where we had a free glow worms tour. So we decided to book into the Nomads hostel and stay in Auckland for one more night.
Although having the freedom to change our plans at the last minute allowed us to decide how long we wanted to stay and what we wanted to do when we arrived in a town, in the long run it probably cost us a little more since it forced us to book everything at the last minute.
